SUMMARY:Taking Refuge in Buddha\, Dharma\, and Sangha: Teachings and Vows
DESCRIPTION:Khentrul Rinpoche\n\n\n\n\nLerab Ling \n\n\n\nRoqueredonde\, France \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJuly 12 – 13\, 2025 \n\n\n\nThere will be two teaching sessions per day\, approximately: \n\n\n\n10:00 – 12:00&14:00 – 17:00 with a 20 – 30 min. break. \n\n\n\nThere will be a few optional practice sessions as well. \n\n\n\n\n\nKhentrul Rinpoche will teach on refuge\, the entranceway to the Buddhist path; conduct the traditional Refuge ceremony; and grant Lay Vows to those who wish to take them for the first time or renew them. \n\n\n\nTaking refuge is the foundation or the cornerstone of all Dharma practice. It gives us the stability\, confidence and trust needed to embark upon\, and to follow the path to enlightenment. The key to taking refuge is acknowledging the fact that we all have buddha nature\, and therefore we all have the potential for enlightenment. Refuge is a practice of developing confidence in our true nature. \n\n\n\nIn the Refuge ceremony we declare our intention to follow the Buddhist path. As an aid in this life change\, we receive a Buddhist name. The teacher might also cut a strand of our hair as a symbol for our renunciation of worldly attachments. \n\n\n\nOn the basis of taking the Refuge Vow\, it is possible to take one or several of the lay vows. The five lay vows are the basic vows that underpin the Buddhist way of life for lay practitioners. They are the vows to refrain from killing\, taking what is not given\, lying\, sexual misconduct and taking intoxicants. These vows serve as an important support to our lives and practice as Buddhist practitioners. \n\n\n\nHosted by Lerab Ling \n\n\n\nFor more info and to register for the event: click here \n\n\n\n\nFee: €344 with accommodation / €112 without accommodation \n\n\n\nVenue\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOrganizer\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIbby Caputo \n\n\n\nibby@katog.org

SUMMARY:How to Fulfill Our Heartfelt Wishes
DESCRIPTION:June 28-29\, 2025 10am to 5pm each day \n\n\n\nAll humans have the potential to pursue both temporary and ultimate goals. However\, most people become distracted by temporary results that provide only limited\, short term benefits\, while few actually focus on accomplishing ultimate benefit and lasting happiness. In either case\, whether pursuing temporary or ultimate happiness\, if we don’t understand how to achieve our purpose\, then our confusion will prevent us from finding what we seek – freedom from suffering and hardships. For this reason\, the great master Mipham Rinpoche composed this short text\, which illuminates exactly what needs to be cultivated and what needs to be discarded to successfully pursue both our temporary and ultimate aims. \n\n\n\nTo Register: click here \n\n\n\nThis event is in person only. \n\n\n\n\nCost:Full price l £120Concessions l £60Donate what you can l Contact study.practice@rigpa.org.uk by Thursday June 26th\, 5pm if you are unable to make a donation of any amount at this time and we will register you. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nVenue\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOrganizer\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n Ibby Caputo \n\n\n\nibby@katog.org

SUMMARY:Saga Dawa - The Month of Gathering Accumulations to Commemorate the Buddha Shakyamuni
DESCRIPTION:Live Webcast Teaching\n\n\nSaga Dawa – The Month of Gathering Accumulations to Commemorate the Buddha Shakyamuni\n\n\n\nwithKhentrul Rinpoche\n\n\n\n\n\nSaga Dawa is the most important month of the Buddhist calendar as it commemorates three significant events in the life of our Teacher\, the Buddha Shakyamuni: \n\n\n\n\nHis birth\n\n\n\nHis attainment of Buddhahood for the benefit of all beings\n\n\n\nHis passing (Parinirvana)\n\n\n\n\nDuring this month\, the power of positive actions and spiritual practice is magnified\, making it an ideal time for accumulating merit and engaging in more practice. One of the most beneficial practices during Saga Dawa is to maintain a vegetarian diet as much as possible. Saga Dawa began on May 27th and will continue through June 25th. \n\n\n\nThe most important day of this month is the 15th day of the Tibetan lunar calendar\, known as Saga Dawa Duchen\, which falls on June 11th in the Western calendar. On this day\, we focus on doing no harm and benefiting others in honor of the Buddha. \n\n\n\nKhentrul Rinpoche will offer a teaching on the bodhisattva precepts and then give the vow ceremony. Everyone is welcome to participate. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDateTimesTimezoneJun 1111:00 am – 1:00 pmCentral Time (CT)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDate\n\n\n\n\nJun 11 \n\n\n\n\n\n\nTimes\n\n\n\n\n11:00 am – 1:00 pm \n\n\n\nCentral Time (CT) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOffering\n\n\n\nYou may offer whatever amount you wish for this webcast teaching when registering. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWebcast Registration\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n Account\n \n \n \n \n\n To be able to register for this webcast teaching you must first be logged in to your Katog Choling website account:\n\n Have an account?\n Log in\n\n Don’t have an account yet?\n \n Create one here\n \n \n and then return to this page and Log in.\n \n\n Lost your password?\n \n Reset it\n and return here once you’re done.\n \n \n \n Having trouble? SUMMARY:The Heart Essence of Interdependent Origination
DESCRIPTION:Nagarjuna\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTime: 10am – 5pm each day\, lunch break 12-2\n\n\n\n\n\nInterdependence\, or dependent origination\, is the causal system behind all phenomena. It is the reason for everything – happiness\, suffering\, birth\, death\, and future experiences. By understanding how all phenomena arise interdependently\, we can cultivate the causes of happiness\, eliminate or reduce suffering\, and gain insights about the mechanism for consciousness’s experience during the dying process and beyond. \n\n\n\nIn seven four-line verses\, Nagarjuna illuminates the heart essence of dependent origination. While brief\, Nagarjuna’s insights into the mechanism of interdependence are extraordinary and complete. By hearing\, contemplating and practicing these teachings\, we learn how to carry suffering and fear onto the path. As the negativity in our mind and life subsides\, love and compassion effortlessly unfold\, and what to do at the time of death becomes clear. For those seeking to understand the essence of interdependent origination\, this teaching offers invaluable guidance. \n\n\n\n\n\nDue to this profound topic\, Rinpoche requests full live attendance for all sessions to participate in these teachings. \n\n\n\n\n\nAdmission is Free. SUMMARY:The Mirror of the Essential Practice of Unifying the Two Accumulations
DESCRIPTION:Mipham Rinpoche\n\n\n\nLive Webcast Teaching\n\n\nThe Mirror of the Essential Practice of Unifying the Two Accumulations\n\n\n\nwithKhentrul Rinpoche\n\n\n\n\n\nKhentrul Rinpoche has long aspired to teach this pith instruction on unifying the practices of accumulating merit and wisdom. \n\n\n\nSome practitioners focus on the accumulation of non-referential wisdom\, such as Dzogchen\, Mahamudra\, or Madhyamika meditation\, treating other practices as less important. Others focus on the referential accumulation of merit through virtuous activities\, such as prostrations\, purifying obscurations\, visualizing deities\, reciting mantras\, and so on\, while not placing adequate emphasis on holding the ultimate wisdom view. However\, without a balanced approach\, progress is hindered. \n\n\n\nThis text offers essential guidance on authentically cultivating both merit and wisdom\, leading to a profound transformation in practice. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWeekend Teaching\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDatesTimes (each day)TimezoneFeb 22 – 2311:00 am – 1:00 pm and 2:30 pm – 4:30 pmCentral Time (CT)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDates\n\n\n\n\nFeb 22 – 23 \n\n\n\n\n\n\nTimes (each day)\n\n\n\n\n11:00 am – 1:00 pm and 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm \n\n\n\nCentral Time (CT) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOffering\n\n\n\nYou may offer whatever amount you wish for this webcast teaching when registering. \n\n\n\n\n\nDue to this profound topic\, Rinpoche requests full live attendance for all sessions to participate in these teachings. DESCRIPTION:Nyingtik YabzhiEmpowerments and Transmissions\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKatog Choling Gön (Katog Rit’hröd)Retreat Center\n\n\n\nParthenon\, Arkansas\n\n\n\n\n\nNyingtik Yabzhi\n\n\n\nNov 8 – 12\, 2024\n\n\n\n\n\nNyingtik Tsapod\n\n\n\nNov 14 – 17\, 2024\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOn the occasion of the consecration of the new temple and representations\, Khentrul Lodrö T’hayé Rinpoche offers this special event at the Katog Choling Gön retreat center in Parthenon\, Arkansas. You may attend just the Nyingtik Yabzhi or just the Nyingtik Tsapod or both\, but full attendance of either section is mandatory. The Nyingtik Yabzhi will be from the morning of the 8th to the evening of 12th. The 13th serves as a rest and travel day. The Nyingtik Tsapod will be from the morning of the 14th to the evening of the 17th. You must arrive the day before and depart the day after these dates for either both or one of the teachings.   \n\n\n\n\n\nExplanation of the transmissions\n\nAmong the numerous dharma teachings that came forth as mind terma treasures of the omniscient Longchen Rabjam\, the most profound cycles of the Dzogchen are the Two Mothers and Two Sons\, called the Nyingtik Yabzhi (the Four Heart Drop Essences). We will also receive a second set of transmissions called the Nyingtik Tsapod\, the compilation of all of the empowerments and reading transmissions of the mind terma treasures of Rigzin Jigme Lingpa. \n\n\n\nTypically\, it takes other lamas a month to give both of these complete transmissions\, but Loga Rinpoche has the special capacity to impart them in just two weeks. It is rare to be able to receive all of these empowerments in such a short period of time. \n\n\n\n\n\nHis Eminence Katog Choktrul Loga Rinpoche\n\nWe have invited His Eminence Katog Choktrul Loga Rinpoche\, one of the main abbots of the mother Nyingma monastery of Katog\, to give these empowerments and reading transmissions. Loga Rinpoche received these empowerments directly from Katog Khenchen Gyaltsen Ozer who was the single reservoir into whom flowed the Nyingtik lineage of transmissions of Jamyang Khyentse\, Jamgon Kongtrul\, Katog Siddhi\, Khenpo Ngaga\, and others. Thus\, Loga Rinpoche holds an exceptionally close lineage with immense power and many blessings. It is from him that we hope to receive these empowerments and reading transmissions. \n\n\n\n\n\nPrerequisites and commitments for students to attend\n\nThe primary prerequisite for attending this event is that the practitioner must have pure and unimpaired samaya with all of their root gurus. This means never having continued negative views of their gurus and never having rejected their guru with enmity. It is requested that anyone having such impaired samaya not attend. In addition\, practitioners who wish to attend must make a commitment to accumulate as many Seven Line Prayers\, Siddhi Mantras (Vajra Guru Mantras)\, Hundred Syllable Mantras\, and the shorter six-syllable mantra of Vajrasattva as possible [download here]. They must count their number of each mantra\, then offer the number to Katog Choling prior to the event. Before we begin\, we will gather these numbers together and offer our practice to the vajra master who is giving us the transmissions.  His Eminence Loga Rinpoche specifically requested these prerequisites when discussing requirements for such profound transmission. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIt is Khentrul Rinpoche’s aspiration that all students who are suitable recipients and who have the spiritual good fortune and capacity make their best effort to attend these rare\, once in a lifetime transmissions. \n\n\n\n\n\nPlease submit any questions about this event here. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegistration is Closed\n\n\n\nThis event is full.

It elucidates the true nature of phenomena\, just as it is\, free of all elaborations. Studying this text leads us to profound insight (vipashyana)\, which is the view; practicing it is meditation; completely integrating it is conduct; and realizing it is the fruition. \n\n\n\nThis will be the most in-depth teaching Khentrul Lodrö T’haye Rinpoche has given on the Heart Sutra. While Rinpoche has previously taught on this topic\,  he will delve more extensively into its meaning over the course of two weekends. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTwo Weekends\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDatesTimes (each day)TimezoneJuly 27 – 28August 24 – 2511:00 am – 1:00 pm and 2:30 pm – 4:30 pmCentral Time (CT)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDates\n\n\n\n\nJuly 27 – 28 \n\n\n\nAugust 24 – 25 \n\n\n\n\n\n\nTimes (each day)\n\n\n\n\n11:00 am – 1:00 pm and 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm \n\n\n\nCentral Time (CT) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOffering\n\n\n\nYou may offer whatever amount you wish for this webcast teaching when registering. \n\n\n\n\n\nDue to this profound topic\, Rinpoche requests full live attendance for all sessions on both weekends to participate in these teachings. SUMMARY:Practice for the Full Solar Eclipse
DESCRIPTION:Live Webcast\n\n\n\n\n\nFor many years\, Khentrul Rinpoche has had the aspiration to establish the practice of nyungnay (explanation) within our sangha. Until now\, this wish has not been fulfilled. \n\n\n\nOn the day of a full solar eclipse\, all positive and negative actions are greatly magnified and their power to effect is multiplied many times over. For this reason\, Rinpoche would like to use this special opportunity to give nyungnay fasting vows and establish a day of practice. \n\n\n\nRinpoche will give vows from the main temple at 6:00am Central Daylight Time at Katog Rit’hrod. Everyone is welcome to attend via webcast even though you may be in a different time zone. \n\n\n\nNyungnay \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFollowing the vows\, Rinpoche will give nyungnay teachings\, and then we will engage in the traditional nyungnay practice of Avalokiteshvara. The main practice will be to accumulate as much mantra throughout the day as possible and to engage in as many positive actions as we can. Rinpoche will provide further explanation during the teachings. \n\n\n\nIdeally\, the practitioner takes the nyungnay fasting vows and then focuses on practice all day. However\, if one must go to work\, as long as we keep the vows\, which include eating only one meal at noon\, then we are still welcome to participate. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNungnay in “My Courses”\n\n\n\n\nThis live webcast took place on April 8\, 2024 and has now passed. However\, the recorded teaching and accompanying texts can be accessed by enrolling in the corresponding “My Courses” addition (free). \n\n\n\n\nEnroll\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nQuestions? Please email courses@katog.org.

SUMMARY:Songs of Spiritual Realization
DESCRIPTION:Called doha in Sanskrit\, these songs spontaneously burst forth from realized Buddhist masters of India and Tibet without any thought or deliberation over composition. They simply spill from the mouths of such masters as an expression of their realization. Such songs of wisdom contain profound messages about the nature of reality and typically arise in metered verse in a variety of melodies. Those who hear the words will understand the meaning according to their capacity\, and the songs will lead each listener to their own insights and wisdom. \n\n\n\nJoin us for an evening with Khentrul Lodrö T’hayé Rinpoche\, renowned monk and scholar\, and author of the recently published book\, The Power of Mind: A Tibetan Monk’s Guide to Finding Freedom in Every Challenge\, for a discussion on these songs of realization\, their history and importance. Rinpoche will explain one chosen song and sing it in its original language and melody. \n\n\n\n\n\nHosted by the Tibetan and Himalayan Studies Centre at Wolfson College\, Oxford University. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFree Admission \n\n\n\n\n\nVenue\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOrganizer\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nContact: Ibby Caputo \n\n\n\nibby@katog.org

It is a distillation of the direct experience of how such great masters of the past used their body\, speech\, and mind to tame their own mindstream and achieve the means to benefit others. SUMMARY:Meditation Instructions on Profound Wisdom

Although profound\, this sequence of instructions is easy to understand\, easy to practice\, and will easily lead to direct experience.Everyone is welcome to attend\, and full attendance to the whole weekend is requested in order to receive the full transmission\, as this ensures the ability to obtain the most complete understanding of all the points in the teaching.
