Broadcast  Live from
Katog Rit'hrod Mountain Retreat Center

The Khyentse Wangpo Ngondro is a sequence of ten practices that form the foundation for practicing the methods of the Secret Mantrayana, also known as the Vajrayana.

Rinpoche will teach the first five practices over these two days. This is sufficient to begin a ngondro - encompassing more than a year’s worth of practice. For those of you who have previously received these instructions, it will serve as inspiration to hear them again.

The remaining sections are more profound and require in-person transmission. If conditions are safe next year, Rinpoche is planning to offer a ngondro retreat at Katog Rit'hrod where students will then be able to receive the full transmission and practice.

Only those students who have a solid foundation in both study and practice of the following 3 requisites are invited to attend this year's online ngondro teachings:

  • Shamatha (calm abiding meditation)
  • Vipashyana (profound insight teachings such as the Heart Sutra, the Heart Essence of Interdependent Origination, Madhyamaka, or other instructions on emptiness)
  • Mind Training (such as the Seven Key Points of Mind Training, Transforming Happiness and Suffering or Eight Verses for Mind Training)

If you are unable to attend because you lack these prerequisites, rest assured that ngondro teachings will be given regularly in the future. Attendance at this online teaching will not be a prerequisite for attending the future planned ngondro retreat.

For students in need of personal guidance on how to receive and/or practice one or more of the above prerequisites in order to prepare for future ngondro teachings, please inquire by emailing [email protected].
