Atisha’s Seven Points of Mind Training – Lojong

Course Participation Instructions

Kindly review the following instructions as you prepare to begin your course. You can navigate through each practice with the forward and backward buttons at the bottom of your screen.

Levels of Participation

This practice program is geared to meet everyone’s capacity:

There are three levels of participation depending on your capacity—maximum, medium, and minimum users. You may fluctuate between these levels for each practice depending upon your available time, but try to do at least the minimum, even if it means listening to the recordings on your phone while taking a walk or driving to work. This is not ideal, but sufficient to keep up. You will find information about the materials cited below in Lesson 1: Preparation.

  1.  Listen to the recording for the practice.
  2.  Integrate practice into your whole day for two days (at times this may be longer or shorter as indicated in the practice instructions).
  1. Listen to the recordings.
  2. Read the corresponding sections in The Power of Mind.
  3. Read the Daily Instructions.
  4. After your day of study, integrate practice into your whole day for two days (at times this may be longer or shorter as indicated in the practice instructions).
  1. Listen to the recordings.
  2. Read the corresponding sections in The Power of Mind.
  3. Read the Daily Instructions.
  4. Read any additional resources provided for clarification.
  5. Sit and do a formal contemplative meditation on the topic.
  6. After your day of study, integrate practice into your whole day for two days (at times this may be longer or shorter as indicated in the practice instructions).
  7. Integrate practice into your whole day for two days.

How to Navigate the Course:

  • Generally, you will spend 3 full days on each practice. On occasion, the practice will last longer, and towards the end of the program, it may be less. Read the instructions carefully for the timing.
  • Please do not advance to the next lesson until you have fully completed the assignments in the previous lesson. Each lesson builds upon the previous one. In order to track your progress, mark the practice as “complete,” which can be found at the bottom of the page. Again, be sure to spend the designated time working on each practice before marking complete.
  • All materials can be found within each practice. Associated resources are hyperlinked and you can scroll down to find the discussion area.
  • The discussion area is a key component of the course, although it is optional. You may post your response to questions, comment on others’ responses, and ask any questions you might have. You may find it useful to read through other comments before posting your own response. Be mindful that you are using the discussion board in a manner that is reflective of our lojong practice.
  • Use the course homepage to check your progress.
  • Wait to start the course until you have gathered all your reading materials and have completed Lesson 1- Preparation and Lesson 2- Mindfulness & Vigilant Guard, which you will find next as you navigate through this Course Introduction Section.
